In accordance with Amended Substitute House Bill 282, school districts are required to identify children who are gifted in one or more of four areas:
- Superior Cognitive (Overall Intelligence)
- Specific Academic (Reading, Math, Science or Social Studies)
- Creative Thinking Ability
- Visual or Performing Arts Ability (Art or Music)
Part of the process of identification includes parent referrals. If you would like for your child to be referred for possible identification please feel free to pick up a referral form from your childs home building. Please return the referral form to Gifted Services at Hampton Bennett.
Gifted Services currently provided for identified students by the Franklin City School District include:
- K-6th---regular classroom on a Written Education Plan (Gifted Intervention Specialist GIS support)
- 5th-6th ---Identified Enrichment or IE -(resource room) at Hampton Bennett once a week
- 8th grade---Gifted Language Arts class-on a Written Education Plan (Must be identified as gifted in Reading)
- Cluster Grouping; educational options; early entrance; subject or grade acceleration
Other advanced opportunities for identified students include:
- 1st-4th---PETS (Primary Education Thinking Skills). GIS pull-out every two weeks at home building.
- 7th-8th---Visual Arts Flex-Digital Video/Technology (Part of building schedule)
- 7th-8th---Foreign Language (French or Spanish), Advanced Math
- 9th-12th---Honors, AP, PSEO classes
- 9th-12th---Media/technology projects
- K-12th-Identified Music/Art-field experience/enrichment once each nine week quarter
